António Zambujo is an internationally acclaimed Portuguese guitarist and fado singer who has sold out concert halls from Paris to Rio de Janeiro. Awarded “Best Male Fado Singer” by the Amália Rodrigues Foundation in 2006, this accomplished musician calls on the influence of “Cante Alentejano” fado greats like Amália Rodrigues, Maria Teresa de Noronha, Alfredo Marceneiro, João Ferreira Rosa. Known for his effortlessly calm timbre filled with both feeling and mastery of restraint, he and his masterful musicians have generated a passionate following all over the world! Join us in welcoming him to his first New Bedford appearance!

Zambujo was born in Beja, Portugal in September 1975. He grew up listening to the “Cante Alentejano” that would later influence his musical education. He sang for his family and friends and won a local fado contest at the age of 16.

António Zambujo has toured extensively in Europe and South America, including numerous sold-out concerts in Paris and Rio de Janeiro, among others. Zambujo was on the list of the 2009 10 Best International Concerts of the Year, selected by the Cultural Section of the newspaper O GLOBO, in the company of musicians such as Elton John, Burt Bacharach, Terence Blanchard (trumpeter), Kiss, Youssou N'Dour and Angelique Kidjo.
